The Minister's Foreword:

"With the slew of RFID mandates being issued worldwide and the rapid take up of RFID in many industries and governments, it is clear that the RFID genie is out of the bottle. These RFID-based applications are increasingly becoming standards-based, creating fantastic new opportunities for RFID initiatives which will affect all aspects of our lives. We Thais need to embrace this technology and take advantage of the possibilities is offers.

Governments throughout the world and Asia are promoting RFID technology, with investments in R&D, training and large government projects. In doing so, they are realising the benefits of RFID and building RFID infrastructure. They hope to become leaders in various RFID technologies – and we in Thailand cannot risk being left behind. Also, the various RFID mandates from abroad may make if difficult for Thai companies to continue to supply our export goods to these countries.

I am particularly keen to promote the adoption of RFID in Thailand. I see great opportunities for Thai IT companies to supply solutions and services to the local and global RFID market. RFID is a tremendous potential engine of growth for the Thai economy, especially in the IT sector. Also, we in government can better serve our people by using such technologies to improve the quality of life.

As part of our government strategy, we have organised this RFID Summit, to help achieve greater awareness of RFID in industry and government; and also to help build technical and managerial RFID capability within Thailand. Our government is committed to helping Thai companies and organisations to become RFID savvy.
I look forward to meeting you at this event in Feburary 2006.
